First walk into town

I went for a walk today all by myself! I took pictures along the way sorta like Hansel and Gretel but instead of bread crumbs, I have photos to find my way home. Big event for me. The sun came out for the first time since we arrived, just when I started my walk.
It's a sign!

I made it into the marktplatz and found a new street to walk down. I found a mini crate and barrel style shop so you know I'll be back there again. Walked around the cathedral - Markt Kirche - and took a different path back home. As I was taking a picture of this frozen pond in the park, a pigeon swooped down and almost knocked me over. I looked like a spaz trying to shoo it away.....must be another sign. Pete wishes he was there to take that picture.

Got home and did my least favorite job in the world - ironing my curtains. I have a good german iron - very efficient and powerful. With 220amps, everything is powerful. (Pete says: 220, 221, whatever it takes). We made a quick run to our local Tengelman for dishwasher stuff and more wine. Found a good local Rheingau Riesling that is our current favorite. (Kami, you will love it)

Pete had a busy day at work checking in with his regional guys and doing some car shopping. On his way home, Pete got cocky and decided to find a faster way home from the office. Of course you know what that means...HE GOT LOST! And ended up on a cobblestone tiny street going the wrong way. A nice german coming towards him flashed his brights (this is the universal sign for "what the #$%^&&" YOUR GOING THE WRONG WAY. He promptly backed up, turned around and found his way right by the same pond I was attacked by the bird. It's a sign.
Tschuss!

  1. Pete- chip off the old block..

    Wrong Way Mac!

I remember when mom and dad moved to Mt. Prospect and Dad, with an adventurous "since Bettie's not here" gleam in his eye, wanted to show me a shortcut to their place and we got completely lost.

Glad you're finding your way around, Mary - great idea to use the camera for markers!

    lots of love,
    Katie

  2. Hey Girlfriend!!! I pray that you don't miss me too badly. Kidding!! It will take another week or two for you to really miss me properly (heehee). I love that you are sharing your adventure and look forward to checking your blog daily.
Nothing new to share here. The tan is fading and I am already wondering if I was indeed in Acapulco at all. Reality slaps you back into real time so quickly. Working on year-end details at work and scraping snow off of my roof at the house.
Following the tragedy in Haiti and feeling sad for all those people in desperate need of so much aid.
Thank you so much for the birthday gift. You are such wonderful friends.
Please send me your email address in case I need to share juicy news.
    Hugs to Pete.
    Love you!!

  3. Hi Mary and Pete, I'm sitting here laughing at your life so far in Germany. It sounds like all is going well. I picture you and Pete trying to change the lightbulb and laugh somemore. Or better yet, everyone working and speaking German and I can see your head spinning. You two will be fine over there, I know it. The sun has come out here and I'm taking Riley for a walk. Ryan will be in for the weekend and we are trying to get all our family to go to Bucca Dipeppo for dinner. It's right off of Lake Cook which should be easy for him when he gets off of 53. I look forward to him going over but I know I will miss him a ton, just as I will miss you two. We are planning a trip over in late Sept or early Oct. It would be me, Matt, Shannon, Andrew and Lisa. Well, gotta go for now. Will check you blog everyday and keep in touch with you two. My kids have your address, email and blog mail if that's what they call it. I don't know. Au revoir mes amis. 5. Hey Guys your blog is great! Sounds like you are settling in on the continent very nicely. Mary your culinary descriptions make my mouth water especially the spicey spaghetti. I will be in Italy on business the 15th-19th unfortunately no time to visit, plus no way Janice would let that happen without her. All is well here except for normal winter blahs, this weather REALLY sucks!
    Best to you both
